November 2019 We’ve been working with leading organic food-producer Coolnagrower Farm in Co. Offaly who have been trialing their Irish-grown produce in packaging made from BioBag compostable film. Pictured are organic, Irish beetroots produced for leading Irish retailer SuperValu Ireland. Now Irish consumers will have the option to purchase organic vegetables knowing that the packaging can be recycled in their organic waste bin.

These beetroots are grown in Coolnagrower Organic Farm in Offaly are sold by SuperValu as part of their private-label range of organic produce.

But why wrap at all? Currently organic fruit and vegetables are often wrapped to protect them and separate them from non-organic varieties on supermarket shelves. And by necessity, often the wrap has been made from conventional soft-plastic which is currently not recyclable by consumers in Ireland.

So it’s really encouraging to see organic growers like Coolnagrower making the switch to using BioBag compostable film. And great to see retailers like SuperValu supporting and encouraging them to go plastic free.
